JOB PURPOSE 
Responsible for ensuring proper surface preparation, spray painting, quality checks and paint reworks are done on available units. The role ensures that the paint application meets quality standards, adheres to safety regulations, and aligns with production schedules.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB 
Operational Responsibilities 

  1. Follow all safety regulations and best practices to ensure a safe working environment
  2. Participate in safety training.
  3. Inspect body and frame to determine feasibility and best method of repair and painting.
  4. Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting, sand body areas to be painted, locate surface irregularities, remove old paint and rust by scraping, grinding, sanding and brushing or applying paint remover.
  5. Apply neutralizing and chemical conditioning solutions to bare metal surfaces.
  6. Follow supervisor’s instructions as to which parts to restore or replace and how much time the job should take.
  7. Remove, install adjust and align body components, such as fenders, doors, door panels, hoods, deck lids, grills, weather strips, bumpers, roofs and quarter panels, for painting purposes.
  8. Apply body filler to build up depressed areas.
  9. Mix paint to correct ratios as per standards of manufacturer.
  10. Use spray painting equipment to perform painting operations and repairs where necessary, to the best quality finish.
  11. Implement paint process best practices, including good record keeping and reporting.
  12. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by Paint engineer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum level of academic and professional qualification required to perform effectively in the role
  1. Spray painter Grade III Trade Test, specialized training or certifications in paint technology will be an added advantage
  2. To have completed secondary level of education
  3. Ability to work accurately and methodically
  4. Prior experience in automotive paint processes or a similar role in manufacturing is preferred.
Minimum level of experience required to perform effectively in the role
  1. 3 years of relevant experience from a recognized organization
